PIT AND FISSURE FILLING

FIRST MOLAR PIT AND FISSURE SEALING.

Regular check-ups enable us to capture the moment when the first permanent molar teeth coming come through. Molars do not have a ‘milk tooth’ equivalent, which is why parents are often not aware of the presence of a new tooth, especially without seeing a milk tooth fall out. Due to having deep pits, molar teeth are most at risk of tooth decay.

ADVANTAGES OF MOLAR PIT AND FISSURE SEALING:

  • Cleaning the surface of teeth of plaque becomes easier and more effective.
  • Fissure sealing – not to be confused with fluoride varnish – mechanically blocks fissures (the grooves on back teeth) on the surface of the teeth and prevents leftover food from being trapped. Additionally, it releases fluorine.

PLEASE REMEMBER!

Sealant protects pits and fissures only. Other tooth surfaces, without proper cleaning, are still exposed to tooth decay.

Only perfectly-healthy teeth can be sealed. Having been professionally cleaned with a sand-blaster, the teeth are then observed in zoom, in the loupe, and those with even very small defects are treated, but not sealed.
